Sleep Disorders


                Primary Sleep Disorder (i.e. not due to another etiology)

                Dyssomnias
                                Primary Insomnia – difficulty initiating or maintaining sleep or sleep that does not seem to be restorative for at least 1 month
                                Primary Hypersomnia – excessive sleepiness for at least 1 month
                                Narcolepsy – irresistible attacks of sleep daily for 3 months
                                Breathing-Related Sleep D/o – sleep disruption that then leads to sleepiness or insomnia
                                Circadian Rhythm Sleep d/o – mismatch of sleep/wake schedule that leads to excessive sleepiness or insomnia
                                Dyssomnia NOS

                Parasomnias
                                Nightmare D/o  - occurs during REM; client can usually remember details
                                Sleep Terror D/o – different from Nightmare d/o in that sleep terrors occur earlier in the night (not during REM) and typically the client recalls none or single images of terror
                                Sleepwalking D/o
                                Parasomnia NOS

                Sleep D/o’s Related to Another Mental D/o
                                Insomnia Related to another Mental D/o
                                Hypersomnia Related to another Mental D/o

                Other Sleep D/o’s
                                Sleep D/o due to gen med condition
                                Substance-Induced Sleep D/o
