Eating Disorders


Anorexia Nervosa – minimal body weight, afraid of gaining weight, perception is that body is bigger than it actually is. The lack of appropriate body weight leads to at least 3 missed periods.

Bulimia Nervosa – binge eating periods and then inappropriate bx in order to prevent weight gain such as vomiting or uses of laxatives or excessive exercise. Occurs at least 2x /week for 3 months

Eating D/o NOS

Notice that there is no eating d/o that describes overeating w/o purging. I may be wrong, but I think DSM 5 corrects this but being that my test is going to be on the DSM IV, I have not reviewed the DSM 5 except for a brief glance at the table of contents.
